Hakim-hakim 2:14

2:14 The Lord was furious with Israel ¹  and handed them over to robbers who plundered them. ²  He turned them over to ³  their enemies who lived around them. They could not withstand their enemies’ attacks. ⁴

8:5 He said to the men of Succoth, “Give ⁵  some loaves of bread to the men ⁶  who are following me, ⁷  because they are exhausted. I am chasing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian.”

Hakim-hakim 8:18

8:18 He said to Zebah and Zalmunna, “Describe for me ⁸  the men you killed at Tabor.” They said, “They were like you. Each one looked like a king’s son.” ⁹

15:10 The men of Judah said, “Why are you attacking ¹⁰  us?” The Philistines ¹¹  said, “We have come up to take Samson prisoner so we can do to him what he has done to us.”

Hakim-hakim 19:5

19:5 On the fourth day they woke up early and the Levite got ready to leave. ¹²  But the girl’s father said to his son-in-law, “Have a bite to eat for some energy, ¹³  then you can go.”

[2:14]  ¹ tn Or “The Lord’s anger burned [or “raged”] against Israel.”

[2:14]  ² tn Heb “robbers who robbed them.” (The verb שָׁסָה [shasah] appears twice in the verse.)

[2:14]  sn The expression robbers who plundered them is a derogatory reference to the enemy nations, as the next line indicates.

[2:14]  ³ tn Heb “sold them into the hands of.”

[2:14]  ⁴ tn The word “attacks” is supplied in the translation both for clarity and for stylistic reasons.

[8:5]  ⁵ tn Or perhaps, “sell.”
